What We’re Drinking: Wines of the Week

Sip into the Season with Icewine. Read below for our favourite icewines from the Icewine Gala!
Lakeview Cellars Vidal Icewine
Tasting Note: An amazing value and a go-to choice for Icewine cocktails. It’s sleek and perfectly balanced with notions of honey, peach cobbler and pear preserves. Unforgettable with fresh fruit, blue cheeses or foie gras.

Tawse Chardonnay Icewine
Tasting Note: Sensational oak-aged sweetie that will have you rethinking icewine. A powerful nose of peach compote, grilled pineapple, tropical fruit and layers of exotic spice. It is thick, rich, complex and silky on the palate with peach cobbler, pineapple, marmalade, caramel and nutmeg-cinnamon spice that’s all balanced out by racy acidity. As noted, just sensational. Score – 94. (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, July 5, 2015)
Find it for $35.80 at the LCBO here!
Inniskillin Cabernet Franc Icewine
Tasting Note: Relatively rare, this dusky pink Niagara icewine is made from cabernet franc. Fragrant cherry and maple dominate a very concentrated palate, one that is slightly cloying in the mouth. A light lick of ash and spicing on the finish helps moderate the richness. Acidity potent enough to carry to a lingering finish. Gold Medal winner at the 2016 National Wine Awards of Canada. Score – 90. (Treve Ring, winealign.com, July 15, 2016)
Find it at the LCBO for $54.95 here!
