Long Weekend Sips from the Okanagan

What’s your ideal long weekend look like? For us the perfect three-day weekend consists of backyard barbecues, pool hangs, and of course, delicious wines. The men in our lives are currently obsessed with the Traeger Grill, a smoker and grill all-in-one. A “toy” that saves us from cooking another dinner is something we can get behind. With the boys taking care of the grill, we have time to serve up those terrific BBQ-friendly wines.
Here are our suggested sips from the Okanagan. These are wines to enjoy with festivities, friends, and anything cooked over fire.
2020 Cedarcreek Estate Winery Pinot Noir Rosé
100% Pinot Noir, 100% delicious! This wine is fresh and vibrant, beaming with notes of pink grapefruit and strawberries that linger on the palate well after the last sip. It doesn’t get easier than pairing a dry style Rosé. Try it with everything from a beer can chicken and grilled veggies to BBQ pizzas.

The ultimate poolside sipper! This easy-drinking dry style Rosé is bursting with flavours of strawberries, cranberries and watermelon. Don’t fuss over pairings because this wine will go with grilled chicken, grilled fish and every type of summer salad you can think of. Our favourites are a Caprese salad with garden-fresh tomatoes or a watermelon feta salad.

2018 Black Market Winery The Syndicate
A well balanced blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
Erupting with aromas and flavours of black currant, plum, dark chocolate, cedar and tobacco. This wine is smooth and rich in texture with well-structured tannins that would pair well with grilled red meats of all kinds.

Leaning more on the savoury side, this South Okanagan Syrah would be the perfect pairing to a peppercorn steak or something more adventurous like a Moroccan spiced lamb burger. Rich in fruit flavours of blackberry, black cherry, and black plum the finish is all black pepper, and fire-grilled red peppers.
This Bordeaux style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot is the perfect pairing to your favourite rib recipe. Luscious flavours of black plum, cherry, dark chocolate, and blueberry are found on the palate. A perfect wine to enjoy with your meal, and continue sipping on well into the cool summer evening.

The best way to get your hands on these wines is to order directly from the winery. If you’re in BC try your luck at your local private liquor stores. Ontario friends, you’ll be happy to know that the Burrowing Owl Syrah and the Quails’ Gate Rosé are available at select LCBO stores.
Cheers to the long weekend!
